General Alarm, Pointe Coupee General Hospital, New Roads







New Roads Fire Department struck a Parish wide (General Alarm) for a fire in the radiology department of Pointe Coupee General Hospital at approx 6am on Sunday, February 17, 2008. The fire was confined by the sprinkler system. Due to smoke and water, it was decided to evacuate the hospital. Acadian Ambulance transported patients to other hospitals in Baton Rouge and others to area nursing homes. There were no injuries at this fire. Assistance was provided from Pointe Coupee Fire Districts 1, 2, 3, and 4.

607 Martin Dr, New Roads



On Sunday, July 29, 2007at 1517, Volunteers with the New Roads Fire Department along with Pointe Coupee Fire District 3 responded to 607 Martin Dr in New Roads for a reported house fire with person(s) still in the structure. The first unit arrived at 1523 to find heavy smoke showing from the structure. Crews immediately established a water supply from a fire hydrant and stretched an attack lines. A crew started performing an attack on the fire while a crew made entry to search for victims while a third crew started ventilating the structure by removing the windows and removing the vents on the roof. The search of the structure for victims found that there was no one in the house and that the fire was mostly contained to the utility room with minor extension of fire into the kitchen and attic. There was moderate smoke damage throughout the house and minimal water damage. Fire department personnel assisted in the salvage of the occupant’s personal belongings and removal of water. The fire apparently started in the area of the cloths dryer. The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the occupants with shelter as the house is uninhabitable. Fire Department units cleared the scene at 1754. No injuries occurred during the fire, the high temperature took there toll on the fire department personnel. Acadian Ambulance Service stood by at the scene in case they were needed. Thank you to the neighbors for all the support of cold drinking water. Photos are compliments of David Jarreau.

408 Louisiana Ave, New Roads


On Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at 1837, Volunteers with the New Roads Fire Department along with Pointe Coupee Fire District 3 responded to 408 Louisiana Ave for a reported house fire. The first units arrived at 1840 to find smoke coming from the side of the house by the electrical service along with the power lines smoking from the house to the pole. A safe perimeter was established from the power lines until New Roads City Utilities quickly arrived on scene to disconnect the power from the pole. Fire crews could then extinguish there fire and check for any extension into the building. Moderate smoke was found throughout the structure but fire had not penetrated into the walls. Fire personnel rescued the occupants Boston Terrier Dog, checked the dog to ensure it was healthy and reunited the dog with the owner. The resident contacted an electrician who quickly responded to the scene. The resident was unable to stay in the house and would be staying with a family member until repairs could be made. Fire units cleared the scene at 2001.

New Roads Police Station 1 Fire



New Roads Fire Department along with Pointe Coupee Fire District 3 fight a fire that has gutted the New Roads Police Department, Station 1 (Headquarters). Fire fighters continue to fight the fire as I make this post. Firefighters are being hampered by an old sub roof. No injuries reported at this time. More posts to follow. District 4 Auto Accident





Members of Livonia & Fordoche Fire Departments (Pointe Coupee Fire District 4) and Livonia Police work to extricate and treat a victim of a one vehicle roll over in the 5000 block of Parlange Lane (LA Hwy 78) on Thursday, September 14, 2006. The driver was quickly extricated using a jaws and air bags. Patient was transported to the hospital via Acaidian Ambulance "Air Med 3".

Structure Fire, Joyce St, City of New Roads





Pointe Coupee 911 received a call from a patroling NRPD unit reporting a house fire at approximately 0600. Engine 510 arrived reporting heavy fire with exposure problems. The 1 story vacant structure was 3/4 involved. A car parked between the fire building and an exposure was also burning. Initial crews were hampered by a bad hydrant. 2 tankers reponded and an adequate water supply was established. Cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. There were no injuries and no damage to adjacient structures. New Roads Fire Department and Pointe Coupee Fire District 3 operated at this fire.

Motor Vehicle Accident, False River Dr at City Line. New Roads Fire Rescue




This 2 vehicle MVA was dispacthed by Pointe Coupee 911 at approx 0700 on 31 May 2006. Dispatch reported entrapment and vehicle smoking. Brush/ Rescue 532 of New Roads FD arrived to find all persons out of the vehicles and no fire. 1 patient from the car was transported to Pointe Coupee General Hospital by Acadian Ambulance. Pictures were taken by a camera phone.
